The Ask A Vet GPS Tracker is a small tracker that clips onto your pet's collar and connects to a pet profile in the Ask A Vet app. This article covers what it does, what's on the device itself, and what you need before you can use one.
What it does
- See your pet on the map, live — the tracker has its own GPS and 4G mobile connection, so it works far from home too, not just around the house.
- Know how your pet is doing — steps, sleep and activity, every day. Health tracking starts the day you finish setup.
- Safety zones and alerts — once it's paired you can mark safe areas and no-go areas, and set up power saving zones and temperature alerts from the tracker's settings. Dogs also get barking alerts.
How it stays connected
The tracker sends its data over its own 4G mobile connection, which is why tracking keeps working when your pet is nowhere near your phone.
When your pet is nearby, the app can also talk to the tracker directly over Bluetooth. That's used for pairing, for faster and more battery-friendly updates when you're together, for the tracker light, and for the firmware update to the tracker's Bluetooth chip.

It doubles as a pet ID tag
The tracker's QR code also works as a pet ID tag. Anyone who finds your pet can scan it to see the contact and pet details you've chosen to share, and help bring them home. You pick what's visible during setup.
What you need
- An active Tracker Plan or Premium subscription — GPS tracking isn't included on the Free Plan.
- A pet profile in the app, since a tracker is always connected to a specific pet.
- A phone with Bluetooth, to run the pairing.
