As well as picking your tracker out of the Bluetooth list, you can pair it by scanning the QR code the tracker shows on its own screen. Here's how — and one important limit to know about first.
Before you start
Important: QR pairing doesn't use Bluetooth. It looks your tracker up on Ask A Vet's system, so it only works for a tracker that has connected to Ask A Vet at least once before. A brand-new tracker out of the box has to be paired over Bluetooth first.
Step-by-step
- In the pairing flow, tap Scan QR code — it's at the bottom of the We found these list, and also on the screen you get when nothing was found.
- On Scan the QR code, follow the three steps shown: - Go to the tracker screen — press the side button if the display is off. - Swipe down twice — the QR code appears on the display. - Scan the QR code — the app pairs it automatically.
- Tap Open scanner and allow camera access if you're asked.
- Hold your phone about 15 cm away from the tracker and tap the code on screen to focus.
- When the code is read you'll see the tracker image with Checking tracker…, then pairing continues as normal.
Tip: the scanner is deliberately zoomed in, because the tracker's small lit code sits closer than most phone cameras can focus. Don't push the phone right up against the tracker — back off to roughly 15 cm.
If the code isn't recognised
A banner reads That doesn't look like a tracker code. It disappears after a couple of seconds and the scanner keeps looking, so you can just line the code up again.
If you see "This tracker hasn't been online yet"
That's the limit described at the top of this article — the tracker has never connected to Ask A Vet, so there's nothing to look up. Tap Pair via Bluetooth and the app will search for it directly instead.
Which method should I use?
