Once your tracker is paired and clipped to the collar, it starts letting you know how it's doing. Here are the messages you'll see in the first days — handy for confirming everything is working.
The messages you'll see
| Type | Notification | What it says |
|---|---|---|
| Power | "{your pet}'s tracker was powered on" | "Tracking is active again." |
| Power | "{your pet}'s tracker was powered off" | "You won't receive location updates until it's back on." |
| Charging | "{your pet}'s tracker is charging" | "You'll be notified when the battery is full." |
| Charging | "{your pet}'s tracker is fully charged" | "Ready to go." |
| Battery | "{your pet}'s tracker battery is below 20%" | "Charge it soon to keep tracking." |
| Battery | "{your pet}'s tracker battery is critically low" | "Battery is at 10%. Charge it now to keep tracking." |
The tracker is switched on and off with its physical side button — there's no power control in the app, so a "powered off" message usually means the button was pressed or the battery ran out.
Tip: if you get a low-battery message shortly after setup, charge the tracker before your next walk — a tracker that powers off stops sending location updates.
Nothing arrives for pairing itself
Ask A Vet doesn't send an email or a push notification when a tracker is paired or disconnected. Your confirmation is the in-app GPS Tracker successfully paired! screen and the message "Your GPS tracker has been connected successfully ✅".
So if you're waiting for a "welcome" email after setup — there isn't one, and nothing has gone wrong.
Other alerts
Once your tracker is running you can also set up safe zone and no-go zone alerts and temperature alerts — plus barking alerts if your pet is a dog. Those are covered in the Safety Zones and Tracker Monitoring sections of this help center.
