Deletion codes are stricter than the other codes Ask A Vet sends, because deleting an account can't be undone. Don't worry — if the app says "That code didn't work. Please try again," one of the reasons below will explain it.

1. The code has expired
Deletion codes are valid for 10 minutes only. If the email has been sitting there longer, close the sheet, tap Permanently delete account again and use the fresh code.
2. You've used up your attempts
You get 5 wrong attempts in total for each deletion request — and resending the code doesn't reset that count. Once they're used up the request is cancelled and you have to start the deletion again from the Delete Account screen.
3. Only the newest code works
Each new code replaces the previous one, and you can resend up to 3 times. If several "Your Ask A Vet account deletion code" emails are in your inbox, check the timestamps and use the most recent.
4. The code didn't arrive
- Check your spam and junk folders for "Your Ask A Vet account deletion code" from Ask A Vet.
- The code always goes to the email address on your account — the Delete Account screen shows it partly masked (for example d•••••@example.com) so you can confirm which inbox to check. It can't be sent anywhere else.
- If you see "We could not send the code. Please try again in a moment." or "We could not resend the code. Please try again.", wait a moment and try again.
5. The confirmation timed out
After a correct code you have 5 minutes to confirm the "Are you sure?" prompt. If you left the app or paused on that screen, the confirmation window will have closed and you'll need to verify a fresh code.
If it still doesn't work
If deletion keeps failing — including with the message "An error occurred while deleting your account. Please try again." — contact support@askavet.com from the email address on the account.
