Welcome to Ask A Vet! Here's a short overview of how accounts work — what the two account types are, how signing up is verified by email, and what happens the first time you're signed in.
The two kinds of account
The very first time you open the Login screen, a sheet slides up titled Welcome to Ask A Vet with the subtitle "Tell us who you're signing in as." You choose one of two cards and tap Continue:
| Card | What it says |
|---|---|
| I'm a Pet Owner | "Care for your pets and get expert veterinary support." |
| I'm a Veterinarian | "Help pet owners and manage your veterinary practice." |
Once chosen, the Login screen shows your choice as a small card with a Change button, so you can switch at any time.
The role you choose is more than a label: pet-owner and veterinarian accounts are looked up separately, and the same email address can exist as both.
Please note: pet owners create their own account in the app. Veterinarian accounts are invite-only and are set up by the Ask A Vet team — tapping Create an account with Veterinarian selected shows a notice saying "Vet accounts are invite-only."
Signing up is email-first
Creating an account happens in two steps:
- Fill in your details and tap Create an account. We immediately email a 6-digit verification code to the address you entered.
- Enter that code in the Verify your email sheet. Only then is your account actually created — and you're signed in automatically.
This means an unfinished sign-up never blocks you. If you never enter the code, you can start again later with the same email address.
What happens right after sign-up
You'll be guided through a short one-time setup — a confirmation screen, the Terms & Conditions and choosing your plan — before the main app opens. "How to create an Ask A Vet account" walks through those steps in full. For what the plans include, see the Subscription & Billing section of this help center.
Emails you'll receive
| Subject | When it arrives | What it's for |
|---|---|---|
| "Your Ask A Vet verification code" | As soon as you tap Create an account | The 6-digit code that finishes your sign-up |
| "Welcome to Ask A Vet" | Once your email is verified | Suggests three first steps: add your pet, try AI Vet Chat, and book your first telehealth consult |
