Yes — video consultations are recorded. Here's exactly what that means, what the recording is used for, and who can see it.
How the recording works
An automated recording assistant joins the Google Meet about 3 minutes before your scheduled start time and records the consultation. You may see it appear in the meeting alongside you and the vet.
Please note: recording is on for every consultation booked from the Ask A Vet app, and there is currently no in-app switch to turn it off. [CONFIRM: whether owners will be offered an opt-out, and what the team wants to tell customers who ask for one today.]
What the recording is used for
The recording powers three things you see afterwards:
| Where it shows up | What it gives you |
|---|---|
| The Video recording card on your appointment's Summary tab | You can rewatch the consultation. |
| Your pet's documents | A copy is saved there, titled "Telehealth recording — YYYY-MM-DD". |
| The AI generated notes | The written summary of the call is produced automatically from what was said during the consultation. |
Who can see it
You and the vet involved in the consultation. The recording saved to your pet's documents is marked as visible to your vet.
A notification you might notice
When the recording assistant joins the meeting, you receive the notification "{vet name} has joined the call / Tap to open your appointment." That alert is triggered by the recording assistant joining, so it may arrive a few minutes before the vet themselves is in the room.
How long recordings are kept
[CONFIRM: the retention policy for consultation recordings and transcripts — how long they stay available, whether owners can request deletion, and who to contact for a deletion request.]
If a recording won't play
Tip: playback links are refreshed whenever the recording itself is updated — reopening the appointment doesn't renew an expired one. If a recording won't play, see "My summary or recording is empty or hasn't appeared".
