A video consultation — shown as Telehealth in the app — is a scheduled call with a licensed vet about one of your pets: you choose the vet, the day, the time and the length, pay for that call, and join at the booked time. Here's what to expect before you book your first one.
Where to find it in the app
- Tap the centre ASK A VET button on the bottom tab bar, then Book a call with a Vet.
- Or open the Consults tab and switch to the Telehealth list — all your upcoming and past calls live there.
- Or open a pet's profile → Consults → Telehealth Calls ("Your recent voice or video vet calls").
- Booked calls also appear on the Calendar tab alongside your other reminders and events.
Length and call method
| What you choose | Your options |
|---|---|
| Length — picked while booking | 15 minutes or 30 minutes (30 minutes is preselected) |
| Method — picked on the Consultation details step | Video call (camera on) or Audio call (camera off) |
Please note: both options run through Google Meet. The camera-off option is simply a Meet call with your video turned off — it is not a telephone call, even though the appointment screen labels it Phone call. The consultation itself takes place in the Google Meet app or your browser, not inside the Ask A Vet app.
What you get afterwards
Once the call is over, the appointment's Summary tab can show three cards:
| Card | What it contains |
|---|---|
| Vet's notes | Reason for visit, history, exam, assessment and plan. |
| Video recording | A copy is also saved into your pet's documents. |
| AI generated notes | An automatic write-up of the call covering diagnosis, medications, recommended tests, home care, and a highlighted "When to seek emergency care" section. |
Please note: consultations are recorded. A recording assistant joins the Google Meet about 3 minutes before the scheduled start so that the video and the automatic notes can be produced.
How you pay
Each consultation is paid for individually when you book it. No plan includes a monthly allowance of consultations, and you do not need a subscription to book one — a subscription only affects the price.
What a consultation is not
Important: a video consultation is not a substitute for an in-person veterinary examination. For hands-on care, lab work, surgery, or controlled-substance prescriptions, please contact a local veterinary clinic. In an emergency, call your local animal emergency hospital. [CONFIRM: clinical and legal sign-off on this wording, plus which regions our vets are licensed to serve and whether they can prescribe.]
