Switching on two-factor authentication means every sign-in needs a one-time code from your inbox as well as your password. It takes about a minute to set up.
Before you start
Make sure you can receive email at the address on your account — that's where every sign-in code will go, and there are no backup codes.
Step-by-step
- Go to Settings and tap Security.
- Switch the Two-Factor authentication toggle on. The Two-Factor authentication screen opens: "Choose your preferred 2FA method — Add an extra layer of security to your account."
- Tap Email — "Receive a verification code via email for added security."
- On the Email Setup screen, enter your email address and tap Continue.
- We email you a 6-digit code. Enter it in the Verify your email sheet and tap Verify.
- You'll see "Two-factor authentication has been enabled successfully ✅" and return to the Security screen.
Important: whatever you type on the Email Setup screen, the code is always sent to the email address registered on your account. You can't use two-factor authentication to send codes to a different address.
What changes afterwards
From now on, signing in has one extra step: after your email and password, Ask A Vet emails a code ("Your Ask A Vet sign-in code") and the Verify your email sheet opens for you to enter it.
If setup doesn't complete
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| "That verification code did not work. Please try again." | The code was wrong or has been replaced by a newer one. Check the most recent email and try again. |
| No email arrives | Check spam and junk, then wait for the 30-second countdown and tap Resend OTP. |
Tip: two-factor authentication is available on both pet-owner and veterinarian accounts, and it's free — there's no plan requirement.
