Got a second phone — a partner's, or a new handset? You don't pair the tracker again: the tracker belongs to your Ask A Vet account, so signing in is all it takes.
Step-by-step
- Install the Ask A Vet app on the second phone.
- Sign in with the same Ask A Vet account.
- Open your pet's profile — the GPS Tracker row already shows Connected, and you can see location, history and settings straight away.
There's no pairing to repeat, and nothing to disconnect on the first phone. Both phones work at the same time.
The one thing to expect: Bluetooth
Pairing is the only part of the app that asks for Bluetooth permission. A phone that never ran the pairing flow has therefore never been asked, so the second phone may show a tappable banner on the tracker screens:
Bluetooth permission needed — "Allow Bluetooth so this phone can connect to {your pet}'s tracker nearby. Tap to open Settings."
Tap the banner, allow Bluetooth in your phone's settings, and return to the app. It reconnects on its own when it comes back to the foreground.
Please note: this only affects the direct phone-to-tracker Bluetooth link. Your pet's location keeps arriving over the tracker's own mobile connection either way.
If the tracker doesn't show in a Bluetooth scan
A tracker stops broadcasting over Bluetooth once it's connected to a phone. So if one phone already has a Bluetooth link to the collar, the other one won't find it nearby until that link drops. This is normal and doesn't affect tracking.
Family members' phones
If you've shared a pet through Family Sharing, the family member also needs the Location Tracking permission ("Access to GPS tracker on shared pets") before the tracker appears for them at all. That's set by the pet's owner in the Family settings.
