Seeing "This email is already registered." on the Sign Up screen is good news, in a way — it means an account with that address already exists and is ready to use. Here's how to get into it.
Why this happens
Ask A Vet only blocks an email address when there is an active account using it for the account type you selected. Half-finished sign-ups — where the verification code was never entered — are not blocked, so they aren't the cause of this message.
Option 1: log in instead
- Go back to the Login screen.
- Make sure the role card says Pet owner.
- Enter your email and password and tap Log In.
Option 2: reset your password
If you don't remember the password:
- Tap Forgot your password? on the Login screen.
- Enter the same email address and tap Reset password.
- Enter the 6-digit code from the "Reset your Ask A Vet password" email.
- Set a new password and log in.
Option 3: use a different email address
If the address genuinely belongs to someone else — for example a shared family inbox already used for another Ask A Vet account — sign up with a different address instead.
Please note: pet-owner and veterinarian accounts are separate. The same email can be registered as both, so an address that's "already registered" as a veterinarian account can still be used to create a pet-owner account, and the other way round.
If you're sure you never finished signing up
Then this message isn't about an incomplete sign-up — an active account really does exist. Try the password reset above; if the reset says the email isn't recognised, check for a typo in the address and try again.
Still stuck? Email support@askavet.com with the address you're trying to use.
