Before you delete your account, it's worth knowing exactly what disappears — and the one small thing that doesn't. Here's what deletion removes, so there are no surprises afterwards.
It takes effect immediately
The moment you confirm, your account is closed — you can't sign in to it again. Your data is then removed in the background over the following moments, and tapping Close on the confirmation screen signs you out of the app.
What gets removed
| What | What happens to it |
|---|---|
| Your account details | Name, email, phone, addresses, timezone and profile photo are removed. |
| Your pets | Removed, along with everything recorded against them. |
| Your calendar events | Removed. |
| Your saved addresses | Removed. |
| Your GPS trackers | Every tracker on the account is unbound and reset, its stored location history is deleted, and the device itself is told to release the pairing so it stops reporting. |
| Family sharing | Any family group you belong to is left. If you were the owner of the family, the group is dissolved: the pets you shared are released and every member is detached. |
| Your subscription | Any active subscription is cancelled immediately, and the unused portion of your current billing period is refunded automatically. |
Important: if other people rely on the pets or trackers you share with them, tell them before you delete — they lose access as soon as the deletion runs.
What is kept
One record survives, and it contains nothing personal: an anonymous feedback entry holding only the type of account, the reason or reasons you selected, any free text you typed, and the date. Its link to you is removed when your account record is deleted, so it can't be traced back to you. We use it only to understand why people leave.
Please note: [CONFIRM: data-retention and backup periods after deletion, plus any legal or regulatory retention obligations]
Your subscription is cancelled for you
You don't need to cancel a paid subscription before deleting. Deletion cancels it immediately, stops all future billing, and automatically refunds the unused portion of your current billing period to the payment method you paid with. For the details, see "Does deleting my account cancel my subscription?".
Can it be undone?
There's no in-app way to restore a deleted account. The confirmation screen points you to support@askavet.com if you have questions or need help afterwards.
Please note: [CONFIRM: whether Ask A Vet can restore a deleted account, and for how long, if at all]
