You tapped Add document — or tried to edit, delete or analyse one — and a screen appeared inviting you to upgrade. Here's what it means and what still works without upgrading.
What you'll see
A modal titled Upgrade to Premium with the message "Premium gives you a document library for all your pets." and "This feature is included in Premium. Premium upgrades all active pets on your account, not just one pet." The buttons are View subscription plans and Not now.
What needs Premium and what doesn't
| Action | Needs Premium? |
|---|---|
| Browsing folders and counts | No |
| Opening, previewing and sharing a document | No |
| Adding a document | Yes |
| Editing a document | Yes |
| Deleting a document | Yes |
| Running Analyze with AI | Yes |
Please note: Only a Premium plan unlocks the Documents library. A tracker plan doesn't include it — so if you subscribed for a GPS tracker, you'll still see this screen in Documents. For what each plan includes, see the Subscription & Billing section of this help center.

Why the screen sometimes appears late
If you open a folder first and then tap Add document, the form opens normally and the plan check runs when you press save — so the upgrade screen can appear after you've already filled everything in. Nothing you typed is lost; it just can't be saved yet.
Shared pets: whose plan counts?
The pet owner's. If a pet has been shared with you through Family Sharing and the owner is on Premium, you can add, edit and analyse documents on that pet even if you're on a free plan yourself — as long as you have the family edit permission.
The reverse is also true: if you're on Premium but the pet's owner isn't, documents stay locked on that pet.
What happens if my Premium ends?
Your documents stay exactly where they are and remain viewable, previewable and shareable. You simply can't add, edit, delete or analyse anything until Premium is active again.
