No red pins anywhere? Don't worry — this is nearly always one of a handful of simple things, and most of them take a few seconds to check.
What to check first
- Are you on the right map? Danger pins only show on the GPS Tracker map screen, opened from your pet's profile. They are not shown on the Home all-pets map. If you're looking at Home, open the pet and go to the tracker map.
- Is the Danger reports switch on? Open Map settings from the tracker map and look for Danger reports — "View areas with reported risks". It's on by default, but it's easy to switch off by accident, and the app remembers your choice.
- Is anything actually reported near you? The map loads hazards within about 5 km of the centre of the map. If you're looking at a quiet area, there may simply be nothing there. Pan the map towards a park, a beach or a busier area and it reloads as you go.
- Did you just report something? Results are held for about a minute so the map doesn't reload constantly. Pan away and back, or come back in a moment, and your pin will be there.
- Has the report expired? A report that nobody confirms drops off the map after 24 hours. If you're looking for a specific pin you saw yesterday, it may simply have expired. See How long does a danger report stay on the map?
Please note: Turning the Danger reports switch off only hides the pins. You still get hazard alerts, and tapping one still opens the hazard.
If it still doesn't work
Try this in order:
- Pinch out slightly and pan the map — this triggers a fresh load.
- Leave the tracker map and come back to it.
- Close and reopen the Ask A Vet app.
- Check your phone has a working internet connection. The hazard map needs the internet, though it does not need your tracker to be online.
When to contact us
If you know there's an active report in your area — for example one you submitted yourself and got a confirmation for — and it never appears on your map after the steps above, get in touch and tell us roughly where and when you reported it. [CONFIRM: support contact channel and hours]
