You tapped an alert, the app opened — and you landed on Home instead of the alert. This is usually a timing issue on a cold start and it's easy to work around.
Why this happens
When Ask A Vet isn't already running, tapping a notification starts the app from scratch. The app waits for itself to finish loading before it moves you to the right screen, and gives up if that takes longer than about 15 seconds. On a slow start — poor connection, an older phone, a big update just installed — it can run out of time.
What to do
- Wait until the app has fully loaded and you can see the Home tab.
- Tap the bell icon in the top-right corner.
- Tap the same alert in the list. Now that the app is running, it will take you straight there.
Please note: Tapping the same notification a second time on your phone won't do anything — each notification tap is only acted on once. Use the in-app list instead.
If you tapped before you were logged in
If your session was still being restored when you tapped, the tap is held and replayed automatically once you're signed in. Give it a few seconds after logging in before you tap anything else.
Some alerts aren't meant to navigate
When the app is already open, certain notifications show up inside the app instead of taking you somewhere.
| Notification | What it does when the app is open |
|---|---|
| A tracker alarm | Opens a full-screen alert rather than a banner |
| A calendar reminder | Appears as a card in the middle of the screen |
| A firmware notification | Opens a summary window |
| Consultation, payment, refund and subscription messages | Appear as a short message at the top of the screen |
That's expected behaviour, not a fault.
Two specific cases
- "Tracker no longer connected" — see the article of that name; the alert came from a tracker that's no longer paired with that pet.
- A calendar reminder that doesn't open the calendar — event reminders only open the Calendar in the pet owner's experience.
