Push notifications are how Ask A Vet tells you your pet left a safe zone, a tag was scanned or your vet has replied. Turning them on takes a few seconds — here's how.
Before you start
Ask A Vet only asks for notification permission after you've logged in. If you've just installed the app and haven't signed in yet, no dialog will appear. Log in, and the iPhone permission dialog comes up shortly afterwards.
If you see the dialog
Tap Allow. That's it — your phone is registered and alerts will start arriving.
If you already tapped "Don't Allow"
iOS won't let the app ask a second time, and Ask A Vet has no in-app button to re-request it. You need to change it in your phone's settings.
- Open the iPhone Settings app.
- Tap Notifications.
- Scroll to and tap Ask A Vet.
- Turn Allow Notifications on.
- Fully close and reopen the Ask A Vet app.
Important: Step 5 matters. Your phone can only be registered for alerts while the app is running with permission granted, so reopening the app after switching it on is what actually completes the setup.
Quiet delivery counts as "on"
If you allowed notifications quietly (delivered to Notification Centre without a banner or sound), Ask A Vet still treats that as permission granted and will send your alerts. You'll find them in Notification Centre rather than as banners.
About the number on the app icon
The badge on the Ask A Vet icon isn't a live count of unread alerts — don't rely on it to tell you how many things are waiting. Open the app and tap the bell icon on the Home tab for the real list.
Tip: Even if a push notification never reaches your phone, the alert is still recorded and will be waiting on the Notifications screen next time you open the app.
