Your event is in the calendar but the reminder never arrived. Don't worry — in most cases the reminder simply wasn't switched on, and it takes seconds to fix.
Quick checks
- Does the event actually have a reminder? New events default to No reminder — this is by far the most common cause.
- Are notifications allowed for the Ask A Vet app in your phone's settings?
- Is it a shared pet? You need the family calendar permission on that pet to receive its reminders.
Check and set the reminder
- Tap the … on the event row.
- Tap Edit event.
- Under Date & Time, open Reminder before event.
- Choose At start, 15 mins before, 30 mins before, 1 hour before or 1 day before.
- Tap Save.
Changing the date, time or reminder resets things, so a fresh reminder is scheduled on the new setting.
Please note: A reminder is sent once per event, and won't be repeated for 24 hours after it's sent. If you've already had it, you won't get a second one for the same event.
The reminder arrived at the wrong time
Reminders are worked out in your account's timezone, and daylight-saving changes are handled correctly. If your device's timezone isn't set or isn't recognised, the time falls back to UTC — which can shift the reminder by several hours.
Check your phone's date and time settings are set automatically, then open the Ask A Vet app again.
Shared pets and family members
Family members receive an event's reminder in their own timezone — but only if they have the calendar permission for that pet. If it's switched off, every calendar notification for that pet is suppressed for them, including reminders and appointment notifications.
Ask the pet's owner to switch the permission on. It's on by default for new family members.
What a reminder looks like
The title is a sentence matched to the event type — "Time to feed Bella.", "Time to give Bella their medicine.", "Time for Bella's flea treatment.", "Bella's vaccination is due today." — and the body is always "Tap to open the calendar event."
In the app's notifications list the row is titled Reminder, with a teal calendar icon.
Tapping it opens the Calendar with that event in focus, where you can mark it Done, Taken, Logged or Skipped.
If the app is already open when the reminder fires, a full-screen reminder appears with those buttons built in.
Other things to rule out
- Was the event cancelled? Cancelling an event removes its reminder too.
- Is it a repeating event you edited? Changing the date, time or repeat rule rebuilds the future occurrences on the new schedule.
When to contact support
If the event has a reminder set, notifications are allowed on your phone, your permissions are correct, and reminders still don't arrive, contact the Ask A Vet support team with the event's date, time and reminder setting.
