You filled in the event, tapped Save, and got "Failed to create event". Don't worry — there's a known cause for this, and it has a straightforward workaround.
Known issue: Food Diary and Feaces Diary
Events of these two types can't currently be saved. Whatever else you enter, saving returns "Failed to create event" (and "Failed to update event" if you're editing).
What to do instead:
- Use Allergy Diary, which works normally, and note in Event Details what you're actually logging.
- Or use any other event type and put your diary notes in Event Details.
The other ten event types — Buy Food, Give Food, Buy Medicine, Give Medicine, Worm Treatment, Flea Treatment, Tick Treatment, Vaccination, Food Trial and Allergy Diary — all save normally.

Other reasons a save can fail
The form isn't complete
If the button still reads Fill all required fields, something is missing. Seven fields are required:
- Pet Name
- Event Type
- Date
- Time
- Repeat
- Reminder before event
- Event Colour
Repeat, Reminder and Event Colour all start with a value already filled in, so the gap is almost always Pet Name, Event Type, Date or Time.
You don't have calendar permission on that pet
On a pet shared with you through Family Sharing, you'll see "Calendar access restricted — You don't have permission to view or manage this pet's calendar events." Ask the pet's owner to switch your calendar permission on.
Creating events needs Premium
If the upgrade screen appears instead — "Calendar is included with Premium" — creating events isn't included in your current plan. See the Subscription & Billing section of this help center.
Connection
A dropped connection mid-save also produces the failure message. Check your signal and tap Save again — nothing you typed is lost.
When to contact support
If you're using a supported event type, everything is filled in, your plan and permissions are fine, and saving still fails, contact the Ask A Vet support team with the event type and date you're trying to save. [CONFIRM: support contact channel — email address and/or in-app support route]
