No — AI Vet Chat never sends you a push notification or an email. That's by design, and it's worth knowing so you don't sit waiting for an alert that isn't coming.
Why there are no notifications
AI Vet Chat is a live, in-app conversation. The answer arrives while you're looking at the screen, usually within seconds, streaming in as it's written. There's nothing to notify you about later.
That applies to everything the assistant sends:
- The opening greeting
- Every answer
- The note when a chat is ended
- The note when a chat expires after 24 hours
None of them produce a push notification, a badge on the app icon or an email.
Please note: because nothing pings you, don't leave the screen expecting to be called back. If you close the app mid-answer, come back and reopen the chat to read the reply.
What you will see
When you return to the Consults tab, the AI Chats list shows an unread badge on any conversation with messages you haven't read yet. That's the only nudge AI Chat gives you.
Status lines on each row also tell you what happened while you were away — Ongoing conversation, This chat was ended or This chat expired after 24 hours.
What does send notifications
Other parts of Ask A Vet behave differently — chats with a real vet and telehealth bookings do send notifications and emails, because a human has to reply in their own time. You'll find those covered in the vet chat and telehealth articles of this help center, and notification settings in the app's settings.
Tip: if you've handed a conversation to a real vet with Chat with a real vet, you're now in a vet chat, not an AI chat — so normal chat notifications apply from that point on.
