If you tap Walk or Activity & stats and get stopped, don't worry — nothing is wrong with the tracker. It's a permission setting on the pet, and the pet's owner can change it in a few seconds.
The message you'll see
Tracker access restricted — You don't have permission to view or manage this pet's GPS tracker. Please contact the pet owner for access.
Why this happens
Walks and Activity & stats both read data from the pet's GPS tracker, so they're covered by the tracker/location permission in family sharing. If your membership for that pet doesn't include it, both screens are closed to you.
On the Activity & stats screen the app doesn't always show a message — it simply takes you back to the pet's profile.
How to fix it
- Ask the pet's owner to give you tracker/location access for that pet in the family sharing settings.
- Once they have, close and re-open the pet's profile.
Both screens will then open normally.
Please note: Permissions are set per pet. Having access to one pet in a family doesn't automatically give you access to another.
If it happens during a walk
If the owner removes your tracker access while you're mid-walk, the walk stops on your phone and you'll see a single message: "Access to this pet's tracker was removed."
Everything recorded up to that point has already been saved, so the walk isn't lost — you just can't add to it or view it until access is restored.
If it still doesn't work
If the owner says the permission is already switched on and you're still blocked, have them switch it off and back on, then fully close and re-open the app. If that doesn't help, contact Ask A Vet support [CONFIRM: support contact route to publish here].
You'll find more about family sharing and permissions in the Family Sharing section of this help center.
