Recording a walk takes a couple of taps. This article walks you through starting one, pausing partway, and saving it at the end.
Before you start
- Your pet's tracker is paired and assigned to that pet
- Bluetooth is on and your phone is close to the collar
- The Ask A Vet app is allowed to use your location (While Using the App is enough — "Always" is never requested)
- Live tracking isn't running, or you're happy for it to be stopped
Start a walk
- Open your pet's profile and go to the GPS Tracker screen.
- In the action row, tap Walk to open the walk sheet.
- Tap Start Walking.
- Tap Okay on the Start walking? confirmation — or Cancel to back out.
The confirmation reads "You'll need to stay near {your pet}'s tracker during the walk. The app will connect to it via Bluetooth." If live tracking is currently running, the message also warns that live tracking will be stopped.
The button then changes to Connecting to tracker while the app links up over Bluetooth. This can take up to 30 seconds. Once connected, the walk starts and Time, Distance (km) and Avg. speed (km/h) begin filling in.
Tip: Nothing is changed until the Bluetooth connection succeeds. If the connection fails, your live tracking session is left exactly as it was.
Pause and resume
Tap Pause any time — during a rest, a chat with a neighbour, or a stop at the park. Time and Distance freeze while paused, and the map trail stops drawing.
Tap Resume to carry on.
Please note: Distance restarts from wherever you are when you resume. If you pause, travel somewhere, then resume, that gap adds 0 km.
If the tracker goes out of Bluetooth range, the walk pauses on its own and Resume is replaced by a greyed-out Reconnecting… until the collar is back in range.
Finish the walk
- Tap Finish.
- Wait while the app sends the last of the route data and saves the walk.
- Find the finished walk at the top of Walk history in the same sheet.
Important: Only the person who started the walk can pause, resume or finish it. Everyone else with access sees a note that a walk is in progress, and can view the walk once it's finished.
While a walk is running
- The walk sheet's close (X) is hidden — reopening the GPS Tracker screen takes you straight back into the walk.
- The LIVE button is disabled until the walk ends.
