A family member tapped something and got an "access restricted" message. In almost every case it's simply a permission the pet owner hasn't switched on — one tap fixes it.

"… access restricted"
You'll see one of these, depending on what was tapped:
| Message | Permission to turn on |
|---|---|
| Edit access restricted | Edit Pet Information |
| Tracker access restricted | Location Tracking |
| Vet chat access restricted | Vet Consultation |
| Booking access restricted | Vet Call Bookings |
| Calendar access restricted | Calendar |
There's also a general Access restricted — "You don't have permission to perform this action. Please contact the pet owner for access."
Fix (family owner): Open Settings → Family Sharing → My family, tap the member, tap Permissions — Manage access, and switch the matching row on. It saves instantly and the member can retry right away.
"Only the pet's owner can perform this action."
There's no permission for this one. Four actions stay with the pet's owner no matter what: deleting a pet, deleting a pet document, deleting a QR tag and deleting a family QR tag. The owner has to do it themselves.
"You no longer have access to this pet"
The full message reads "You're not currently a member of the family that owns this pet." and "If this is unexpected, ask the pet owner to re-add you to their family."
This means the family link has ended — the member left, was removed, or the pet was un-shared. The fix is on the owner's side: share the pet again and, if needed, send a fresh invitation.
A message about Premium
If the AI Pet Assistant, certified vet chat or pet documents say a Premium plan is needed, that's about the pet owner's plan, not the member's. Family members use the pet owner's entitlement, so if the owner isn't on Premium the feature is unavailable to everyone — upgrading the member's own account won't change it.
Tip: Not sure what a member currently has? Open them from My family and check the permission switches, or ask them what their Pets you can access list says — it summarises their access as Full access, View only, or something like "Can edit, track, consult".
