If you no longer want access to someone else's pets, you can leave their family yourself — you don't need to ask the owner. Leaving is free and works on any plan.
Leave a family
- Open Settings → Family Sharing.
- Go to the Joined families tab.
- Tap the family you want to leave. Each card shows "{Owner's first name}'s family", the date you joined and how many pets it holds.
- Tap Leave family at the bottom of the screen.
- Confirm at "Leave {family}?" — "Are you sure you want to leave this family group? You'll lose access to all shared pet's info. This action can't be undone." — by tapping Yes, leave family. Tap No, cancel if you've changed your mind.
You'll see "You've successfully left this family group." If it doesn't work — "We could not leave this family right now. Please try again." — check your connection and try once more.
Please note: This only applies to families you joined. You can't leave your own family — see the article below.
What happens when you leave
- You lose access to every pet that family shared with you. Those pets leave your pet list along with their records, events and tracker.
- Any pet you had shared into that family stops being shared and comes back to you only. Any QR pet tags activated for it through Family Sharing are released.
- You're taken out of any vet or AI chats that were open for that family's pets.
- Pets shared by other people stay shared with everyone who's still in the family.
Important: There's no undo. To get back in, the family owner has to send you a fresh invitation.
If the screen closes on its own
If you see "This family is no longer available to your account." and the app takes you back, it means your access ended while you had the screen open — for example the owner removed you or closed their family. Nothing has gone wrong on your side.
