A LIVE Tracking session ending on its own is usually completely normal — sessions are designed to be short. Here are all the reasons a session can end without you tapping Stop.
The timer ran out
This is by far the most common reason. Every session runs for the length set in Live tracking timer — 5, 15, 30 or 60 minutes — and then ends automatically so the tracker's battery isn't drained. The countdown in the chip at the top of the map shows exactly how much time is left.
If you want longer sessions, change the length in GPS tracker settings → Live tracking timer.
The battery ran low
A low battery stops LIVE Tracking immediately. You'll see a modal titled Live tracking unavailable:
| Message | When you'll see it |
|---|---|
| "Live tracking stopped — the tracker's battery is low." | The session ended mid-way |
| "Live tracking isn't available while the tracker's battery is low." | The session never got going |
Before that point you may see the warning banner Battery low — "Tracker battery low — using your phone's location."
Charge the tracker and start a new session.
A tidy-up ended a session that overran
A safety check runs every few minutes and closes any session that's more than 5 minutes past its expected end time — for example if the tracker stopped responding at exactly the wrong moment. You'll simply see the session as finished.
What does not end a session
Please note: the tracker going offline does not end a LIVE session. If your pet is near your phone but out of mobile coverage, the session carries on using your phone's location — that's a supported, healthy way to run LIVE Tracking. The session keeps running until its timer expires or you stop it.
Why isn't the session in my Location history?
If a session never managed to record a single position — the tracker was unreachable for its whole length — it isn't saved, and it won't appear in your pet's Location history. There was simply no route to keep.
Sessions that recorded at least one position are saved as trips, with route, replay, Duration, Distance and Avg speed.
