When a paid plan ends, your account moves back to the Free Plan. Your pets and everything you've recorded about them stay exactly where they are — you just lose access to the paid features until you subscribe again.

Before the end date
Nothing changes. You keep full access to your plan until the last day of the period you've paid for. The Manage subscription screen shows "Your plan ends on {date}."
On the end date
Your account returns to the Free tier and you'll get an email:
"Your subscription has ended." "Your account is now on the Free tier — your pet profiles, photos, and history are preserved." "Resubscribe anytime from the Ask A Vet app. Your pets and history will be right where you left them."
Your pets are never deleted
Cancelling a plan, downgrading, or letting a subscription lapse never removes a pet. Your pet profiles, photos and history stay exactly where they are.
Tip: if you resubscribe later, everything is still there — you don't need to re-add your pets.
What stops working
- AI Vet Chat and Certified Vet Chat
- Adding or editing documents in a pet's document library (you can still view documents that are already there)
- Family Sharing actions — inviting members and sharing pets
- The discounted telehealth rate (telehealth is still available at the regular per-call rate)
- Connecting new GPS trackers, which needs a paid plan
A pet that someone else has shared with you is unaffected: what counts is the pet owner's plan, not yours.
[CONFIRM: what happens to an already-connected tracker, live tracking and location history once the plan has ended]
What's kept
Your pet profiles, photos and history are preserved.
[CONFIRM: how long data is retained after a subscription ends]
Adding pets on the free plan
Still unlimited, still free. There's no cap on the number of pets on any plan, and adding a pet on the free plan never triggers a charge or a price confirmation. (On Premium, the base price covers two pets and each additional pet you own is billed — that count follows your owned pets automatically as you add and remove them.)
Deleting your account is different
Deleting your Ask A Vet account is not the same as cancelling your subscription.
Important: if you want to keep your pets' records, cancelling your subscription on its own is enough to stop being billed — see "How to cancel your Ask A Vet subscription".
How to resubscribe
- Open Settings → Subscriptions.
- Tap View subscription plans.
- Pick your plan and complete checkout.
Tip: If you cancelled but the end date hasn't arrived yet, you don't need to resubscribe — just tap Resume subscription. See "How to resume a subscription you've cancelled".
