Family Sharing lets other people help look after your pets. It's included with the Tracker Plan and with Premium. Only the person doing the sharing needs a paid plan — the family members they invite don't need one of their own. Here's exactly how plans and Family Sharing fit together.
Which actions need a paid plan
Only a few actions actually need a paid plan — either the Tracker Plan or Premium. Everything else works on any account, including a free one.
| Action | Paid plan needed? |
|---|---|
| Sending a family invitation | Yes |
| Sharing a pet with your family | Yes |
| Accepting an invitation | No |
| Declining an invitation | No |
| Leaving a family | No |
| Removing a family member | No |
| Stopping sharing on a pet | No |
| Viewing your family, your shared pets and the pets shared with you | No |
On the Free Plan you'll see:
"A paid plan is required" "Family Sharing is available on the Tracker Plan and Premium." "Subscribe to invite family members and share your pets."
with View subscription plans and Not now.
Family members don't need their own subscription
What counts is the pet owner's plan, not the plan of the person opening the pet. If a Premium owner shares a pet with you, you can use the Premium features on that pet even if you're on the Free Plan yourself.
Family members use the pet owner's entitlement for AI Vet Chat, Certified Vet Chat and pet documents. So a family member on a free account can still use those features on a pet owned by a Premium subscriber.
Please note: Certified Vet Chats used by family members come out of the owner's allowance of 2 chats per month — it's one shared pool per household.
Family Sharing doesn't increase your bill
On Premium, only pets you own count towards the per-pet pricing. Pets shared with you by someone else never add to your bill.
[CONFIRM: whether Family Sharing on Premium is limited to 2 pets — the Premium plan card says "Family sharing (up to 2 pets)" but other screens say only "Family sharing"]
If you're removed from a family
If the owner removes you from their family, you'll see:
"You no longer have access to this pet" "You're not currently a member of the family that owns this pet." "If this is unexpected, ask the pet owner to re-add you to their family."
Tap Got it. Subscribing to your own plan won't restore access — only the pet's owner can re-add you.
