If you came back to a conversation and found it closed, don't worry — nothing has been lost. AI chats close themselves after a day of silence, and your summary and files are all still there.
Why this happens
An AI chat closes automatically after 24 hours with no new messages.
The clock is reset by any real message — yours or AI Vet's. So a conversation that runs across a whole day stays open as long as somebody is talking; it's only 24 hours of complete silence that ends it.
Please note: we check for inactive chats regularly, so a chat may close a few minutes after the 24-hour mark rather than exactly on it.
What you'll see
Inside the conversation, a note appears: "This AI chat has automatically expired after 24 hours".
Opening it from the AI Chats list takes you to the Chat summary screen, which reads AI chat closed — "Closed automatically after 24 hours with no messages" — with the banner "This AI chat is closed. Start a new AI chat to keep asking questions."
In the chat list, the row's status line changes to This chat expired after 24 hours.
Nothing is lost
- The full conversation summary is saved and readable on the Summary tab
- The Chat details tab still shows duration, message count and attachments
- Every file you sent is still in your pet's document library
What to do next
To keep going, start a new AI chat for the same pet — closed chats are read-only and can't be reopened. Because the old one is closed, the one-open-chat-per-pet limit no longer applies, so you can start immediately.
Tip: expired chats can be archived. Swipe the row in the AI Chats list to tidy it away, then use the Archived filter if you ever need it again.
Why it works this way
Closing quiet conversations keeps your chat list meaningful — an Ongoing conversation really is ongoing — and makes sure every finished conversation gets a proper saved summary rather than trailing off.
