A photo of a rash, a lab report, a recording of a cough — sending files is often the fastest way to get a useful answer from AI Vet. Everything you send is also filed away in your pet's document library automatically.
How to attach something
- In the chat, tap + next to the message box.
- Pick a recent photo from the rail, or choose Record an Audio Clip, Record a Video Clip or Upload a File.
- Add a note describing what you're sending, then send.
Tip: AI Vet assumes every file you send in a chat is of the pet that chat is about, so it won't stop to ask "which pet is this?"
Limits
| Limit | Maximum | Message you'll see |
|---|---|---|
| Attachments per message | 5 | "Maximum 5 attachments per message. Remove one to add another." |
| File size | 100 MB | "File is too large (max 100 MB)." |
| Recorded video | 2 minutes | "Video is too long (max 2 min)." |
| Recorded audio | 5 minutes | "Audio is too long (max 5 min)." |
Supported file types
| Kind | Formats |
|---|---|
| Images | JPEG, PNG, GIF, WebP, HEIC/HEIF |
| Documents | PDF, Word, Excel, CSV, PowerPoint, plain text |
| Video | MP4, QuickTime |
| Audio | MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC |
| Archives | ZIP |
Anything else is refused with "This file type isn't supported".
What AI Vet does with each type
| You send | What happens |
|---|---|
| A photo | AI Vet looks at it directly |
| A PDF | The text is read out of it (up to 50 pages) |
| A spreadsheet or CSV | Parsed and read (up to 10 MB) |
| An audio clip | Transcribed and read (up to 5 minutes) |
| A video | Saved for you, but AI Vet can't watch it |
For video you'll get: "I can't watch the video yet, but a vet on the team can review it directly. What's going on in the clip?" Describe what happens in the clip and a real vet can review the footage later.
Please note: if a file is past one of those analysis limits it's still saved to your pet's documents — AI Vet just tells you it couldn't read it.
Everything is saved to your pet's documents
Each file you send is added to that pet's document library, and the message gets a tappable In documents badge that opens the saved copy. Nothing you send is lost when the chat ends.
Permissions
The only permissions AI Chat needs are for attachments: camera, microphone and photo access.
| Device | How photo access works |
|---|---|
| iPhone | The app uses your Photo Library permission and shows the photo rail inline |
| Android 14 and newer | The app uses Selected Photos access |
| Older Android versions | No inline rail — the system photo picker opens instead, which needs no permission at all |
If the camera won't open you'll see "Camera unavailable" — "Could not open the camera. Make sure camera permission is granted in Settings."
