Ask A Vet gives you three different ways to get help, and they're easy to mix up. Here's what each one is, who's on the other end, and what it costs you.
At a glance
| Option | What it is | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| AI Vet chat | An instant, automated conversation that gives you general pet health information | Unlimited on the Premium plan |
| Vet chat | A text conversation with a real veterinary professional | Two vet chats per monthly billing period on the Premium plan |
| Telehealth consult | A scheduled video consultation with a veterinarian | Payment may be required at the time of booking |
Where you start
Tap the Ask A Vet tab. A sheet opens headed Create chat — "Start a new conversation" — with two buttons: New chat with AI vet and New chat with a vet. Telehealth consultations are booked separately, as an appointment.
AI Vet chat
An instant, automated conversation that gives you general pet health information. It's unlimited on the Premium plan.
Important: AI Vet content is general information only. It may be incomplete, inaccurate or out of date, and it may not identify serious or urgent conditions. It must never be the sole basis for decisions about diagnosis, treatment, medication, emergencies, breeding, surgery or euthanasia. De-identified and aggregated data may be used to improve the services.
Vet chat
A text conversation with a real veterinary professional.
- The Premium plan includes two vet chats per monthly billing period.
- A chat is counted when you start it.
- It ends when the vet ends it, when you end it, or after 24 hours with no message activity.
- Unused chats don't roll over, have no cash value, and aren't transferable or refundable.
Telehealth consult
A scheduled video consultation with a veterinarian.
- Payment may be required at the time of booking.
- Missed, late-cancelled or unattended consultations may be non-refundable.
- Cancellations made within 2 hours of the scheduled time may be non-refundable, except where required by law.
- Fees are non-refundable once the service has been delivered.
Which should I use?
Tip: use AI Vet chat for quick, general questions; a vet chat when you want a professional to look at photos or video and reply in writing; and a telehealth consult when you want to talk face to face.
Step-by-step guides live in the AI Chat, Vet Chat and Video Consultations sections of this help center.
Important: none of the three is an emergency service. If your animal needs urgent care, go to a vet in person.
