An Ask A Vet QR pet tag is a physical ID tag for your pet's collar with a unique QR code on it. When someone finds your pet and scans that code with their phone, a web page opens straight away with your pet's profile and the contact details you chose to share.
How it works
- Activate the tag in the Ask A Vet app and link it to one of your pets.
- Attach the tag to your pet's collar.
- Someone who finds your pet scans the QR code with their phone camera.
- A web page opens in their browser — we call it the finder page.
- From that page they can call you, email you, or open your address in maps with one tap.
Please note: The person who finds your pet does not need the Ask A Vet app and does not need an account. The page opens in any phone browser.
What a finder sees
The page is headed "{Pet name}'s Profile", followed by "If you found {Pet name}, please keep them safe and call immediately!". A green Hi there! badge shows normally — if you have marked your pet as lost, a red I'm lost badge shows instead.
Below that are up to six cards. A card only appears if there is something in it to show.

The page also carries an emergency block — "🚨 If found sick or injured:" with a Nearest emergency Vet button. Tapping it offers Google Maps or Apple Maps and searches for an emergency vet near the finder.
What you control
You decide what appears on that page using eight privacy toggles:
- Your phone
- Your email
- Your address
- Last located
- Vital information
- Vet clinic
- Family contacts
- Additional information
Important: Your pet's name and photo are always shown on the finder page and cannot be hidden.
What you get back
Every successful scan is saved as a sighting in your pet's Locations timeline. You are sent an alert about a scan only while your pet is marked as lost.
Please note: A scan never moves your pet's map pin or last known position — scans are recorded as sightings only.
Do I need a subscription?
No. QR tags are included on every plan, including the free one, and there is no limit tied to your plan.
Tip: If you have an Ask A Vet GPS tracker, the QR code on the tracker itself doubles as a pet ID tag.
