Photos are used for pet profile pictures, for chat with a vet, and for attachments on support requests. How you grant access depends on your phone — and on newer Android phones, Ask A Vet only ever asks for the pictures you choose.

On iPhone
When you first attach a photo, iOS asks whether to give the app access to all photos or only selected ones.
| Choice | What it means |
|---|---|
| Allow Access to All Photos | The app can offer your whole library. |
| Select Photos… | You pick the pictures the app can see. This works perfectly well; limited access is treated exactly like full access. |
To change it later: Settings → Ask A Vet → Photos.
On Android 14 and newer
Ask A Vet asks only for Selected photos — it never requests your whole gallery. You choose the pictures you want it to see, and you can change that selection at any time.
- Tap the attachment button in chat.
- Android shows its own photo selector — Ask A Vet only ever asks for "selected photos" access, so there's no all-or-nothing choice to make.
- Pick the pictures you're happy to share, and confirm. Only those become visible to the app.
To add more later, open your phone's Settings → Apps → Ask A Vet → Permissions → Photos and videos and update your selection.
Please note: This is deliberate. Ask A Vet uses the limited-access option so it never has visibility of pictures you haven't chosen to share.
On Android 13 and older
Nothing to grant. The app opens your phone's own photo picker, which doesn't need a permission at all — you simply choose a picture and it's sent.
If you previously blocked access
Once you've blocked a permission, the app can't ask again. It will offer to open your phone's Settings so you can switch it back on — do that, then return to Ask A Vet and try the attachment again.
