Walks are built to survive a lost signal, a closed app and even a flat battery. If a walk ended in a way you didn't expect, here's what happened and what was kept.

"Your walk was saved automatically"
Ask A Vet closed the walk for you because it hadn't heard from your phone for 60 minutes. This usually means the app was force-quit, the phone ran out of battery or was switched off, your phone's operating system shut the app down, or you were out of connection for a long stretch.
Everything up to the last check-in is saved. During a walk the app checks in roughly every 10 minutes, and additionally every time you pause, resume, reconnect to the tracker or bring the app back to the front — so what you lose is only the progress made since that last check-in.
Tip: To avoid this, tap Finish at the end of your walk rather than swiping the app away.
"We couldn't finish the walk"
The full message reads "We couldn't finish the walk. Please try again." Nothing is lost — your route and figures are safely stored on your phone, and Finish stays tappable.
- Check you have mobile data or Wi-Fi.
- Tap Finish again.
The app always sends the remaining route data before closing the walk, so it won't save a half-finished record.
I had no signal during the walk
Walks keep recording with no internet at all. Route points are held on your phone and uploaded as soon as you're back online, and your Time, Distance and Avg. speed are worked out on the phone the whole time.
On a very long walk with no connection, the stored route may be trimmed at the oldest end — but your figures stay complete.
My walk disappeared after reinstalling the app
If you reinstall the app or clear its storage while a walk is running, open the walk sheet again. Your own in-progress walk is offered back to you with Resume and Finish — you're never locked out of a walk you started. The figures pick up from your last check-in.
The same happens if the app was closed mid-walk: on the next launch, an active walk is restored, and any route data waiting on your phone is uploaded.
"Access to this pet's tracker was removed"
The pet's owner removed your permission to view that pet's tracker while the walk was running. The walk stops on your phone, but everything recorded up to that point is already saved. Ask the owner to re-enable tracker access if you need it back.
Still stuck?
If a walk is genuinely missing from Walk history, note the pet, the date and roughly when you walked, and contact Ask A Vet support [CONFIRM: support contact route to publish here].
