Family Sharing lets you share your pets with the other people who help look after them, so everyone in the household sees the same pet profiles, records and updates in their own Ask A Vet app. Here's how it works and what it gives you.
Where to find it
Open Settings and tap Family Sharing. The screen is headed Family and has three tabs:
- My family — the people you've invited, plus anyone whose invitation is still pending.
- Shared pets — the pets you're sharing with your family.
- Joined families — the families other people have invited you into.
Please note: Family Sharing is part of the pet-owner app only. Vets don't have a Family screen.
Families and roles
You don't have to create a family — every Ask A Vet account already has one. Yours is shown as "{Your first name}'s family", and you are always its Owner. Everyone you invite joins as a Family member, and in My family your own row is marked "(me)".
| Role | Who has it | What it allows |
|---|---|---|
| Owner | You, on your own family — always | The only person who can invite people, remove people and decide what each member is allowed to do |
| Family member | Everyone you invite | Access to the pets you've shared, within the permissions the owner gives them |
What a family member can do
When someone accepts your invitation they can reach the pets you've shared — and those pets appear in their ordinary pet list, not only inside the Family screens. Depending on the permissions you give them, they can help with:
- Pet profiles, documents and records
- Appointments and events
- The AI Pet Assistant
- Vet chat and telehealth
- QR pet tags
- Live GPS tracking
There are five permissions in total, and new members start with all of them switched on.
Tip: The My family tab reminds you of this with the note "Managing permissions — Tap any family member to choose what they can access — pets, location, bookings, consultations, and the calendar."
