You decide the temperatures that count as too cold and too hot for your pet. Set them once and the tracker keeps watch from then on.
Set your thresholds
- Open your pet's profile and tap GPS tracker settings.
- Tap Temperature alerts ("Set cold/hot thresholds for your pet").
- Turn on Cold alert — "Notify me when it drops below the threshold" — and enter a value in Low threshold (°C).
- Turn on Hot alert — "Notify me when it rises above the threshold" — and enter a value in High threshold (°C).
The screen explains it like this:
Get an alert when the temperature around your pet's tracker gets too cold or too hot. Thresholds sync to the collar so it can flag the condition even without cellular signal.
What values you can use
- Whole degrees Celsius only, from -20 °C to 60 °C. Anything outside that range is pulled back to the nearest allowed value.
- All temperatures in the app are Celsius — there is no Fahrenheit option.
- A new tracker starts with both alerts switched off, a low threshold of 0 °C and a high threshold of 40 °C.
Tip: Set thresholds that are actually reachable where you live. A low threshold of -20 °C in a mild climate will simply never fire.
The safety backstop
Important: Turning Hot alert off does not disable everything. A hot-critical alert still fires as a safety measure, at whichever is higher — 40 °C, or your high threshold plus 5 °C.
How saving works
Your thresholds are stored in your Ask A Vet account and then sent to the collar, so the collar can flag a cold or hot condition even when it has no mobile signal.
If the collar can't be reached at that moment, the app stays quiet — we automatically retry sending your settings once an hour until the collar confirms them.
Messages you might see
| Message | What it means and what to do |
|---|---|
| "Failed to update temperature alert settings." | The change didn't save. Check your phone's connection and try again. |
| "The collar rejected the new temperature setting. Try again in Bluetooth range." | The tracker turned the change down. Stand close to your pet and try again. |
| "Tracker is unreachable — get in Bluetooth range or wait for mobile network" | The Temperature alerts row is greyed out because the tracker currently has no mobile signal and no Bluetooth link. |
