Every LIVE Tracking session runs for a set length of time and then ends by itself. You can change that length at any time — here's where.
Step-by-step
- Open your pet's profile and tap GPS Tracker to open the map, then tap the settings button in the header at the top.
- Tap Live tracking timer ("Choose live tracking session length").
- On the LIVE Tracking Duration screen, tap one of the four options.
- Your choice saves the moment you tap it — there's no Save button. You'll see "Live tracking timer updated."
| Option | Notes |
|---|---|
| 5 minutes | Carries the Recommended pill, and is the default |
| 15 minutes | — |
| 30 minutes | — |
| 60 minutes | — |
The new length applies to the next session you start.
Why 5 minutes is recommended
The screen's How It Works card explains:
"LIVE Tracking updates your pet's location every 2-3 seconds, unlike regular tracking when updates are less frequent. This uses more tracker battery, so we recommend turning it on for shorter durations."
Longer sessions are there for when you genuinely need them — a search, a long off-lead run — rather than as an everyday setting.
If no option looks selected
If none of the four rows is highlighted, your tracker is currently set to an older value that isn't offered any more (for example 25 minutes). The app deliberately doesn't highlight a value your tracker isn't actually on. Just tap the length you want and it will be applied.
If you see "The collar rejected the new timer."
Don't worry — your choice has already been saved. This message just means the tracker didn't acknowledge the change right away, usually because it was asleep or out of contact. The app re-sends your settings to the tracker automatically, so the new length takes effect once the tracker is reachable again.
If the row is greyed out
Live tracking timer is only dimmed when the tracker can't be reached over the mobile network or Bluetooth. Bring your phone near your pet, or wait until the tracker has signal again, and the row becomes tappable.
Please note: sessions must be between 5 and 60 minutes and in steps of 5 minutes. If your tracker has never reported a setting, it starts at 5 minutes.
