Deleting a pet removes their profile and everything attached to it. It can't be undone, so it's worth knowing exactly what goes before you confirm.

Step-by-step
- Go to Home and open the List tab.
- Tap the ⋮ icon on the pet's card.
- Tap Delete profile.
- Read the confirmation message — "Delete pet profile" / "Are you sure you want to delete this pet? This action cannot be undone."
- Tap the red Yes, delete button (or Cancel to back out).
You'll see "Your pet profile has been deleted successfully." If you were on that pet's profile screen, you'll be returned to Home.
Please note: only the pet's owner can delete a pet. Delete profile doesn't appear at all on a pet that a family member has shared with you — ask the owner if it needs removing.
If your pet has a GPS tracker
You'll need to disconnect the tracker from the pet first. Until you do, the Yes, delete button is hidden and the message reads "This pet has an active tracker. Please unbind it before deleting this pet."
Unbinding is covered in the GPS Tracker section of this help center.
If your pet has active QR tags
QR tags don't block deletion. The message will say "This pet has active QR tags. Deleting this pet will deactivate them."
When the pet is deleted, those tags are deactivated and reset — which means the physical tags can be activated again on a different pet later.
What gets deleted
Deleting a pet permanently removes:
- The pet's profile and photo, and any files stored for them
- Their documents
- Their calendar events and appointments
- Their consults and chat history with vets
- Their health records and activity data
- Their QR scan history and related notifications
- Their tracker history and location timeline
- Their share with your family, if the pet was shared
Important: this is permanent. There's no undo and no way to restore a deleted pet. If you only want to stop sharing a pet with a family member, change your family sharing settings instead of deleting the pet.
If deletion fails
If something goes wrong you'll see "We couldn't delete this pet profile. Please try again." and the pet reappears in your list. Check your connection and try again.
Deleting your account
Deleting your Ask A Vet account deletes every pet you own, along with all of the data listed above. See the Account section of this help center.
