Adding a pet takes a few minutes. A short guided setup walks you through one detail at a time — here's what to expect at each step.
Where to start
There are a few ways to start adding a pet:
- On Home, tap the floating + button in the corner, then tap Add Pet.
- If you have no pets yet, tap Add pet on the "No pets added yet" screen.
- If you start a chat, a consult or a telehealth booking before adding a pet, you'll be offered the chance to add one right there.
Tapping Add Pet opens an intro screen — "Let's create your pet's profile" — tap Get started to begin.
Step-by-step
Each step has a Continue button to move on. A Cancel option sits in the top corner throughout — tap it and everything you've entered is discarded and you're returned to Home. Once you're past the first step, a back arrow also appears to take you to the previous one.
- Name — "What's your pet's name?" This one's required.
- Species — "What kind of pet do you have?" Pick from a grid of nine types: Dog, Cat, Bird, Aquatic, Ferret, Guinea Pig, Rodent, Rabbit or Amphibian.
- Photo — "Add a photo." Tap Take a photo or Choose from library. Once you've picked one, you can pan and zoom to crop and centre it in the circular frame. Photos can be up to 10 MB. This step is optional — tap Skip for now to move on without one.
- Breed — "What's their breed?" Choose between two tabs: Purebred (search and pick one — or choose Unknown if you're not sure) and Mixed breed (pick each breed in the mix; your choices show as removable chips).
- Health details — Sex (Male or Female), Desexed (Yes, No or Unsure — "Desexed means your pet has been spayed or neutered."), and an optional Microchip number ("Enter the 15-digit microchip number from your pet's registration or vet records.").
- Age, weight & colour — Birthday, picked from a date picker (your pet's age is worked out and shown automatically), Weight (with a g, kg or lb unit), and Coat colour (the options depend on the species you picked).
- Profile colour — "Choose a profile colour." Pick from 30 swatches — a preview card updates live as you tap through them. Tap Create Name's profile to finish.
Tip: breed lists vary a lot by species — dogs have well over 200 options on the Purebred tab, while ferrets have just one. Whatever the species, Unknown is always there if you can't find (or don't know) the breed.
What happens next
You'll see a short confetti celebration and a screen saying "Name's profile has been created!" with three buttons:
| Button | What it does |
|---|---|
| Activate QR tag | Sets up a QR pet tag for this pet |
| Connect to Tracker | Starts GPS tracker pairing |
| Go to Home | Takes you back to your pets list |
Please note: Connect to Tracker needs an active paid plan. If you're on the free plan, tapping it opens a "Connect tracker" screen explaining what's needed rather than starting pairing.
If you're on Premium and this is your third (or later) pet, you'll see a price confirmation before the pet is created — see the Subscription & Billing section of this help center.
