Every family member has five permissions, and the family owner decides which of them are on. This article explains exactly what each one unlocks so you can give people just as much access as you're comfortable with.
The five permissions
| Permission | Description in the app | What it lets the member do |
|---|---|---|
| Edit Pet Information | "Allow editing pet profile details" | Change a shared pet's profile, add or remove its photo, add and update health records, add, edit and analyse pet documents, and activate or update QR pet tags for that pet |
| Location Tracking | "Access to GPS tracker on shared pets" | Use the whole GPS tracker for shared pets: live tracking, location history, safe zones and virtual fences, walks, separation-anxiety monitoring, tracker settings and tracker health. It also decides whether the member receives safe-zone, no-go-zone, virtual-fence, danger-nearby and separation-anxiety alerts |
| Vet Consultation | "Chat with AI / Vet for shared pets" | Start a chat with the AI Pet Assistant or with a certified vet about a shared pet, and hand a conversation over to a vet |
| Vet Call Bookings | "Book vet video calls for shared pets" | Book a video consultation for a shared pet |
| Calendar | "View & receive notifications for shared-pet events" | See shared-pet events, create, edit and delete them, and receive event reminders |
How permissions work
- Permissions are set per person, not per pet — the same five switches apply to every pet in that family.
- New members start with all five switched on.
- Only the family owner can change them. Everyone else sees them as read-only.
- The owner's own row is always on and can't be edited.
Open a family from the Joined families tab and each pet under Pets you can access shows a short summary of what you can do with it — for example Full access, View only, or "Can edit, track, consult".
Four things no permission can unlock
These stay with the pet's owner, whatever the switches say:
- Deleting a pet
- Deleting a pet document
- Deleting a QR tag
- Deleting a family QR tag
Trying one shows "Only the pet's owner can perform this action."
Please note: The AI Pet Assistant, certified vet chat and pet documents also depend on the pet owner's plan. If the owner isn't on Premium, those features are unavailable to family members too, no matter which permissions are on.
