Temperature alerts are designed to tell you something once, clearly, rather than nag you every few minutes. If they feel too frequent — or too quiet — here's what's going on.

I'm getting too many temperature alerts
Alerts fire when the temperature crosses into a new band, not on every reading. Two things keep them from repeating:
- Repeat limits. Cold and hot-warning alerts are sent at most once an hour. Hot-critical alerts are sent at most once every 30 minutes.
- Once per occurrence. Each alert occurrence is shown to you once — reopening your pet's screen won't pop the same alert again.
One thing always alerts immediately, by design: moving up from hot warning to hot critical. Safety beats quiet.
If alerts still feel too frequent, widen your thresholds on the Temperature alerts screen.
Why I don't get an alert every time it crosses my threshold
There's a deliberate 2 °C buffer on the way back out of a band, so the alert doesn't flip on and off around your threshold:
- Enter a hot warning at 30 °C, and it only clears once the temperature drops below 28 °C.
- Enter a cold alert below 10 °C, and it only clears at 12 °C or above.
Also worth knowing: cooling back down from hot critical to hot warning never sends a notification. You're told when things get worse, not when they get slightly less bad.
I'm not getting any temperature alerts
- Check the toggles. Open your pet's profile → GPS tracker settings → Temperature alerts and confirm Cold alert and/or Hot alert are on.
- Check your thresholds are realistic. A threshold your climate never reaches will never fire.
- Check the tracker is reachable. If the Temperature alerts row is greyed out with "Tracker is unreachable — get in Bluetooth range or wait for mobile network", the collar has no mobile signal and no Bluetooth link right now.
- Check notifications are allowed for the Ask A Vet app. On Android, tracker alerts use the Tracker Alarms channel — if it's off, you'll see nothing.
Please note: Even with Hot alert switched off, a hot-critical alert will still reach you. That one can't be turned off.
My family members aren't getting them
That's expected. Temperature alerts are sent to the tracker's owner only — unlike Separation Anxiety Monitor alerts, they are not passed on to family members.

That means the tracker hasn't sent a reading yet. Give it time to report in, or check the tracker's status.
