Thank you for helping. If the pet you've found is wearing an Ask A Vet tag, you can reach their owner in seconds — you don't need an app and you don't need an account.
Scan the tag
- Open your phone's normal camera and point it at the QR code on the tag.
- Tap the link that appears.
- The pet's page opens in your browser.
The page is headed "{Pet name}'s Profile" and says "If you found {Pet name}, please keep them safe and call immediately!". A red I'm lost badge means the owner has reported this pet missing. A green Hi there! badge means they haven't.
Contact the owner
The Owner information card is at the top of the page. Depending on what the owner chose to share, it shows:
- Name
- Phone — tap it to call
- Email — tap it to send an email
- Address — tap it to open directions in Google Maps or Apple Maps
Important: Please get in touch rather than waiting to be contacted. Owners are only alerted about a scan while their pet is reported missing — if this pet hasn't been reported lost, nobody knows you've scanned the tag.
What else is on the page
Some owners share more, and any card with nothing in it is simply hidden.
| Card | What it can include |
|---|---|
| Pet information | Species, breed, colour, behaviour, the language the pet responds to, microchip number, and where the pet was last located |
| Family contacts | Other people you can call or email about this pet |
| Vital information | Allergies, medical alerts, medications and food |
| Vet clinic | The clinic's name, phone number and address |
| Additional information | Anything else the owner wants you to know |
If the pet seems sick or injured
The page has an emergency block — "🚨 If found sick or injured:" — with a Nearest emergency Vet button. Tap it and choose Google Maps or Apple Maps, and it searches for an emergency vet near you.
If the pet has vital information listed (allergies, medical alerts or medications), please mention it to the vet.
Please note: There is no chat on the page. Calling or emailing the owner is the fastest way to reach them.
Other links on the page
The menu icon at the top of the page opens About Ask A Vet, Contact Us and Download App. At the bottom you'll find "Want a tag like this for your pet?" with a Buy Tag link, if you'd like one for your own pet.
